James Blake- James Blake

I remember only 2 and a half years ago I refused to get an iPod. I knew it would ruin my music listening skills and would kill my attention span. I was right. I have to reallllyy discipline myself to listen to a whole album… or more than a song or two by one artist at a time. While there is a certain value to listening to “Girl from the North” by Bob Dylan then “What’s Beef?” by the Notorious BIG back to back. It’s kinda counterproductive to how I feel we should be absorbing music.

Enough about all that. My point is that, James Blake’s self titled full length debut is an album I have willingly sat through in it’s entiriety countless times since I got it about 3 days ago. It’s a perfect combination of the voice of Antony and Bon Iver with music seemingly inspired by minimalism like Steve Reich with it’s subtle changes with repeating parts. It keeps an ear for more ambient dubstep with a nice jazz undertone. But it’s all so minimal and there is just so much room for the music to breath.

I don’t really feel like writing a music review so that’s all I’ll say. You should get on that shit, though.
